GENERAL :

1. The Board at present conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved specialties leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board.
The Medical Council of India has laid down standards for postgraduate examinations conducted by various medical colleges and affiliated to concerned universities and other institutions, yet the levels of proficiency and standards of evaluation vary considerably in these institutions. The setting up of a National Body to conduct postgraduate medical examination was intended to provide a common standard and mechanism of evaluation of minimum level of attainment of the objective for which postgraduate courses were started in medical institutions. Moreover, intra country and international comparison is facilitated with the availability of commonly accepted evaluation mechanism.
RECOGNITION OF DNB QUALIFICATIONS
The Nomenclature of the qualification awarded by the National Board of Examinations is “Diplomate of National Board”. The list of recognized qualifications awarded by the Board in various Broad and Super specialties as approved by theGovernment of India and included in the First Schedule of IMC Act 1956 is as at Annexure D.
The Diplomate qualifications awarded by the National Board of Examinations have been equated with the postgraduate and post doctorate degrees awarded by other Indian Universities for all purposes including appointment to teaching posts as lecture/Assistant Professor by theGovernment of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; vide their notifications issued from time to time. The latest notification issued by the Government of India dated 20th February 2009 to this effect is placed at Annexure E.
The holders of Board’s qualification awarded after an examination i.e. DNB are eligible to be considered for specialist’s post/faculty in any Hospital including a training/teaching institution on a teaching post/ as faculty member/ teacher/assistant professor/lecturer.

Physical Standards:

For Men: Height-163 cms, Chest Measurement-84cms(round the chest).
For Women: Height-150 cms, Chest Measurement-79cms (round the chest).

Selection Procedure: Selection will be made in three successive stages
1) written examination 2) physical test and 3) oral test.

Examination Fee: Rs.100 Examination fee should be paid only through any one of the Post Offices listed in Annexure III to the Brochure and the Postal Receipt obtained for payment should be pasted in the space provided in the application. Candidate should inform the OMR application Number to the Counter Clerk of the Post Office for obtaining the postal Receipt. No fee for SC/ST/Ex SM/ PH candidates.

How to apply: Filled in application forms along with copies of all qualification certificates and Postal receipt pasted in the application form must be sent to The Controller of Examinations, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, Omanthoorar Government Estate, Anna Salai, Chennai-600 002 so as to reach on or before 23rd December 2009.OMR application form along with an Information Brochure to candidates containing general instructions for filling the application form and an envelop for sending application can be obtained from any one of the Head Post Offices or selected sub-post offices in Tamil Nadu/ Puducherry.
